Social Impacts of IT

Social impacts of IT on individuals

IT has become a norm for everyone in this day and age. As more and more people prefer the use of internet to solve their problems and to make life easier for themselves, they forget to think about the effects it can have on day to day life.

The internet has changed how we live, work, eat and speak. E.g. there would be no need to attend a language class when you could just stream the classes from your home unless the social aspects are important to you.  Many young people have taken up the hobby of video games which is a great source of entertainment, whereas maybe twenty years ago they would have engaged in more physical and or outdoor activities. Despite being a good source of entertainment, the addictiveness of video games can have a negative effect on your health. The use of social media services such as instant messaging and video chat completely removes the need of face to face interaction and can cause a lack of social skills that everybody needs to progress. All the things listed can be accessed through the use of a mobile phone. There are dangers when using a mobile phone to access social media services such as Facebook, twitter and snapchat. Trolls and bullies have taken advantage of the advancements in technology by using them to harass and torment other individuals.

The Internet has impacted the entire world; you can even earn a living from the very comfort of your home. Streaming services such as twitch let you broadcast gaming sessions to thousands of viewers, all while earning money.
